Potassium phosphate (MF: K₃PO₄, MW: 212.266261), also known as Tripotassium phosphate, is a white granular powder that readily absorbs moisture. It dissolves in water and exhibits an alkaline reaction, characteristic of a typical strong base weak acid salt. It is insoluble in ethanol. Industrially produced by adding potassium hydroxide to potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution. Characterized by non-toxicity, high water solubility, and strong chemical stability. Potassium triphosphate exhibits chelating properties, forming stable complexes with certain metal ions (e.g., Fe³⁺, Cu²⁺, Zn²⁺), enabling its use in metal ion chelation and separation.
