Texanol (2,2,4-Trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate), with the molecular formula C₁₂H₂₄O₃, is a colorless, transparent liquid. It is stable at room temperature, has a low freezing point and a high boiling point, is virtually insoluble in water, and is readily soluble in organic solvents. It exhibits good hydrolytic stability and is low-toxicity and environmentally friendly. It is primarily used as a film-forming aid for water-based coatings, a coalescing agent for emulsion paints, an additive for adhesives, and a plasticizer for inks and plastics.
