  1. 1-Butanol (MF: C4H10O MW: 74.12) is a colourless, transparent liquid at room temperature and an important organic compound.

  2. N-Butanol, also known as butanol or 1-butanol, is a primary alcohol with the chemical reactivity of a primary alcohol. It can be oxidised by oxidising agents such as potassium dichromate and can undergo esterification reactions with other carboxylic acids under the catalysis of concentrated sulphuric acid.

Product Application Of 1-Butanol CAS 71-36-3

  1. 1-Butanol is primarily used to produce phthalic acid, aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, and phosphoric acid n-butyl esters as plasticisers, such as DBP, which are widely applied in various plastic and rubber products.
  2. 1-Butanol is an excellent organic solvent, used in the production of urea-formaldehyde resins, cellulose resins, alkyd resins, and coatings. It can also serve as a solvent for organic dyes and printing inks, a dewaxing agent, and a common non-reactive diluent in adhesives. It is also used for washing sodium zinc acetate precipitates.
  3. N-Butanol is a raw material for the synthesis of butyraldehyde, butyric acid, butylamine, and butyl lactate in organic synthesis, and it is also an intermediate in herbicide production.
  4. 1-Butanol can be used as an intermediate in antibiotic synthesis and as a solvent in drug production.
  5. N-butanol is used as a co-solvent in cosmetics such as nail polish, with an addition rate of approximately 10%.
  6. 1-Butanol is primarily used in the formulation of food flavourings such as banana, cream, whisky, and cheese, and can be used in baked goods, puddings, candies, and other products.
  7. Additionally, n-butanol is used as an anti-foaming agent in ink formulation for screen printing, a standard material for chromatographic analysis, for the colorimetric determination of arsenic acid, and as a gasoline additive.
