It appears as a white to pale yellow powder or crystal and is highly soluble in water. Its key characteristics include the reversible redox activity of its disulfide bonds and strong hydrophilicity, making it a core brightener in acid copper plating processes / leveling agent (accounting for over 90% of the electroplating additive market).
