At room temperature, it exists as a white crystalline powder with a faint phenolic odor. It exhibits typical reactivity of phenolic compounds, with the phenolic hydroxyl group capable of undergoing esterification, etherification, sulfonation, and other reactions. The benzene ring undergoes electrophilic substitution reactions. It exhibits good stability, resisting decomposition at room temperature but igniting upon exposure to open flames or high temperatures.
