
Nonylphenol ethoxylate (CAS 9016-45-9), with a structure of C₉H₁₉C₆H₄(OCH₂CH₂)ₙOH (n=1-100), is stable in neutral conditions but hydrolyzes in strong acid/alkali (especially with heat) into nonylphenol and polyethylene glycol fragments. It has moderate thermal stability, decomposing above 200°C, and is soluble in both water (via ethoxy chains) and organics (via nonylphenol), with solubility dependent on ethoxy length. As a surfactant, it reduces surface tension, forms micelles, and may oxidize under UV or with strong oxidizers, interacting with ionic compounds/heavy metals.
