Agarose powder CAS 9012-36-6

Chemical Properties Of Agarose powder CAS 9012-36-6

  • Agarose Powder is composed of repeating units of D-galactose and 3,6-anhydro-L-galactose linked by glycosidic bonds, characterised by higher purity, low electrical internal osmotic (EEO) properties, and high gel strength.
    When heated to approximately 90°C, agarose gel dissolves;
  • when cooled to 35–40°C, it forms a porous gel, with pore size adjustable by concentration. It exhibits excellent compatibility with biological samples, minimising interaction with biomolecules such as nucleic acids and proteins. It remains stable over a wide pH range (pH 4–9) and temperature range, and demonstrates strong resistance to enzymatic degradation.

Product Application Of Agarose powder CAS 9012-36-6

  1. Agarose is the core medium for nucleic acid (DNA, RNA) electrophoresis, such as agarose gel electrophoresis for separating PCR products, plasmid DNA, genomic DNA, etc., and can also be used for protein electrophoresis (e.g., immunoblotting).
  2. Agarose gels formed through cross-linking modifications utilise molecular sieving effects to separate biomacromolecules (such as proteins, polysaccharides, and nucleic acids), and are widely applied in protein purification, antibody separation, and other processes.
  3. Agarose derivatives can be used to prepare ion exchange chromatography media (such as DEAE-agarose and CM-agarose).
  4. Low-melting-point agarose can be used for cell embedding, three-dimensional cell culture, or as a matrix for soft agar cloning experiments to assess cell proliferation capacity.
  5. As a biocompatible material, agarose powder is used to prepare biosensors, tissue engineering scaffolds, etc.
  6. As a food additive, agarose powder is used in jellies, ice cream, pastries, etc., as a substitute for gelatin or pectin.
  7. In pharmaceutical formulations, it is used as a sustained-release carrier or as a component of culture media.
  8. Agarose powder is used as a matrix for preparing affinity chromatography columns (e.g., after coupling antigens/antibodies to separate specifically bound biomolecules).
  9. As a gel medium, it is used for the separation and detection of nucleic acids or proteins in environmental samples, aiding in the analysis of pollutant sources.
