
Polyaluminum chloride (PAC) is a water-soluble inorganic polymer intermediate between AlCl₃ and Al(OH)₃, with the general chemical formula [Al₂(OH)ₙCl₆₋ₙ] ₘ (1 ≤ n ≤ 5, m ≤ 10). It possesses a highly charged polymeric ring-chain structure and serves as a highly efficient water treatment flocculant, combining electrostatic neutralization, bridging adsorption, and precipitation functions. It is widely used in the purification of drinking water and industrial wastewater, as well as in sludge treatment. It is low in toxicity and corrosion, and its treatment efficiency surpasses that of traditional aluminum salts.

It is used as retention aids and filtration aids in papermaking; for decolorization and flocculation of dyeing and textile wastewater; coal washing in mining, and oilfield chemical processing.
Sugar and food processing industries: decolorization and clarification of sugar solutions; purification of process water.
Building materials, ceramics, and refractory industries: flocculation and clarification of slurries to improve material separation efficiency.
Sludge treatment: aids in sludge thickening, flocculation, and sedimentation; reduces sludge moisture content to facilitate subsequent dewatering.
