Aluminum starch octenylsuccinate, commonly known as “pure glue,” is a modified starch derivative. It is produced by esterifying natural starch (such as corn, cassava, or potato starch) with octenyl succinic anhydride (OSA), followed by cross-linking with aluminum salts. Its molecular structure incorporates hydrophobic octenyl chains and negatively charged succinic acid groups. The presence of aluminum ions enhances intermolecular cross-linking, conferring unique emulsifying, thickening, and stabilizing properties.
