It decomposes readily upon heating, yielding ammonia gas, sulfur dioxide, and elemental sulfur. It reacts rapidly with acids, releasing sulfur dioxide gas and precipitating elemental sulfur. Possessing reductive properties, it reacts with oxidizing agents such as chlorine and bromine.
