Arecoline hydrobromide, also known as Arecoline HBr, is the hydrobromide form of arecoline. It belongs to the piperidine alkaloid class, with the molecular formula C8H14BrNO2 and a molecular weight of 236.11. At room temperature, this substance appears as a white to pale yellow crystalline powder; it is odorless and has a bitter taste; it is highly soluble in water. It occurs naturally in the seeds of the palm tree Areca catechu L. and can also be prepared through chemical synthesis.
