Avobenzone (MF: C₂₀H₂₂O₃, MW: 310.39), is an oil-soluble diphenylmethanedicarboxylate derivative and a broad-spectrum UVA filter. It absorbs the full UVA spectrum from 315 to 400 nm (with the highest absorption at 357 nm) and is one of the few sunscreen ingredients capable of covering both UVA I (340–400 nm) and UVA II (315–340 nm).

Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane is highly soluble in oil, practically insoluble in water, and has strong UVA-absorbing properties. It is relatively stable, but may degrade upon prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light.
