Chemical Properties Of Bisphenol A Cas 80-05-7

Bisphenol A (MF: C₁₅H₁₆O₂, MW: 228.29) is a vital organic chemical raw material and a key derivative of phenol and acetone. Its chemical reactivity primarily stems from the two phenolic hydroxyl groups in its molecule, enabling it to undergo various typical organic reactions (condensation polymerization, substitution reactions, oxidation reactions). This reactivity is also the core reason for its use as a chemical monomer, finding extensive applications in sectors such as chemicals, electronics, and daily consumer goods. Due to its potential endocrine-disrupting properties, its use in food contact materials and other applications is now restricted in many regions globally.

Product Application Of Bisphenol A Cas 80-05-7

  1.  BPA is primarily used in synthesizing polymeric materials such as polycarbonate (PC) and epoxy resins, with widespread applications in:
    – Anti-corrosion coatings for ships/bridges, automotive primers;
    – Insulation layers for printed circuit boards (PCBs), chip packaging materials;
    – Aerospace structural adhesives, construction tile adhesives;
    – Fiberglass (for pipes, storage tanks), carbon fiber composites (for wind turbine blades, racing components).

  2.  Bromination of bpa yields tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA), the world’s most widely used brominated flame retardant. It is incorporated into plastics, rubber, and textiles (e.g., computer casings, cable sheathing) to inhibit combustion reactions and achieve flame-retardant properties.

  3.  It serves as an antioxidant and stabilizer for rubber and lubricants, preventing material aging and degradation caused by oxidation.

  4.  It is used in synthesizing dye intermediates, polysulfones (a high-temperature-resistant engineering plastic), and other materials.
