Bromocresol Green (also known as tetrabromo-m-cresolsulfonphthalein, abbreviated as BCG) is a pH-sensitive triphenylmethane dye with the molecular formula C₂₁H₁₄Br₄O₅S and a molecular weight of 698.01. It is a yellow crystalline powder at room temperature, slightly soluble in water, and soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and diethyl ether. Its color-changing pH range is 3.8 (yellow) to 5.4 (blue-green). It is widely used in analytical chemistry, clinical testing, and biological experiments, and is one of the most commonly used acid-base indicators.
