It is a colorless or pale yellow liquid at room temperature, hygroscopic, and hydrolyzes rapidly in water to produce hydrogen chloride, with strong corrosiveness. It is soluble in most organic solvents, thermally stable, and readily reacts with alcohols, acids, etc. As an organotin compound, it is highly toxic and strongly irritating to the skin and mucous membranes, and should be stored sealed and dry.
