Calcium carbonate (MF: CaCO₃, MW: 100.0869) is an inorganic carbonate compound formed by calcium ions and carbonate ions. Its chemical name is calcium carbonate, and it is commonly known as limestone, calcite, or marble. At room temperature, it appears as a white crystalline powder or crystal. It is non-toxic and odorless, characterized by high chemical stability, widespread availability, and low cost. As an inorganic material with an extremely broad natural distribution and widespread industrial applications, it is extensively used in the construction, chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and environmental protection sectors, earning it the reputation as the “industrial staple.”

Calcium Carbonate is used as aggregate and admixture in sand and gravel; employed in putty powder, dry-mix mortar, and base fillers for emulsion paint; and utilized in the production of decorative and construction products such as artificial marble, terrazzo, ceramic tiles, aerated concrete, and gypsum board.
Plastics, Rubber, and Coatings Industries: CaCO3 is used as a filler and modifier for PVC, PE, PP, pipes, profiles, and plastic films; as a reinforcing filler for general-purpose rubber; and as a body filler and white pigment for coatings and inks.

It is used as calcium supplements, acidity regulators, and leavening agents in food products; as raw materials for medicinal calcium supplements; and as abrasives in toothpaste.

It is used in the production of quicklime, slaked lime, soda ash, calcium carbide, inorganic salts, and other products; as ingredients in the glass and ceramics industries; and as acid-base neutralizing agents in industrial wastewater treatment.

It is used as an acid soil conditioner, calcium supplement in livestock, poultry, and aquaculture feed, and for environmental desulfurization, among other applications.
