
Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is a water-soluble anionic polysaccharide polymer.MF:C6H12O6,MW:80.15588. At room temperature, it appears as a non-toxic, odorless white flocculent powder. It exhibits stable properties, dissolves readily in water, and forms viscous solutions where viscosity increases with concentration. Its properties are minimally affected by temperature and electrolytes. Carboxymethyl cellulose is a substitution product of cellulose with carboxymethyl groups. Depending on its molecular weight or degree of substitution, it can be either completely soluble or insoluble polymers. The latter can serve as a weak acid cation exchange resin for separating neutral or alkaline proteins, among other applications.
