Cas 13548-38-4/Chromium(III) nitrate nonahydrate is a soluble inorganic nitrate crystal of trivalent chromium and a synthetic inorganic chemical raw material; It appears as deep purple, lustrous, flaky crystals that are highly hygroscopic and prone to deliquescence; chromium exists in the stable +3 oxidation state (non-toxic, as opposed to hexavalent chromium), and its aqueous solution exhibits a unique color-changing property: it is purple in cold solution at room temperature but reversibly turns green upon heating. It is currently the most widely used environmentally friendly raw material for trivalent chromium.
Chromium(III) nitrate nonahydrate, with the molecular formula Cr(NO₃)₃·9H₂O and a molecular weight of 400.15, is an important inorganic chromium salt. The molecule contains nine molecules of water, is highly hygroscopic, decomposes easily when heated, and is soluble in water and ethanol. Its aqueous solution is acidic and exhibits oxidizing properties. It is widely used in electroplating, ceramic coloring, catalyst preparation, and as a mordant in textile dyeing.
