2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine oxide (TEMPO) is a stable nitroxyl radical compound with the mf C₉H₁₈NO・ , with a mw 156.25. It possesses unique radical stability and redox properties, capable of trapping radicals and quenching singlet oxygen. It is also a highly effective oxidative catalyst, capable of oxidizing primary alcohols to aldehydes and secondary alcohols to ketones. Furthermore, TEMPO is relatively stable under both light and heat and serves as a highly effective oxidation catalyst, capable of oxidizing primary and secondary alcohols into the desired carbonyl compounds. It is characterized by high yield, good selectivity, excellent stability, and the ability to be reused.
