Chromium(III) nitrate nonahydrate is a nonahydrate inorganic nitrate of trivalent chromium, with the molecular formula CrH₁₈N₃O₁₈ and a molecular weight of 400.15. At room temperature, it forms reddish-purple monoclinic crystals. It is highly hygroscopic and readily deliquesces in air. It is soluble in water, ethanol, and acetone, but sparingly soluble in nonpolar organic solvents such as benzene and chloroform. Its aqueous solution is weakly acidic; a 50 g/L solution has a pH of 2–3. When heated, the solution gradually turns green but returns to its original color upon cooling. It has poor thermal stability.
