Cyclohexane (MF: C6H12 MW: 84.16) is an alicyclic hydrocarbon with a unique structure and stable properties, serving dual functions as both a “solvent” and a “synthesis intermediate.” It is a colorless, free-flowing liquid with a gasoline-like odor. Chemically stable, it does not react with strong acids, strong bases, oxidizing agents (such as potassium permanganate), or reducing agents at room temperature. It exhibits excellent solubility and is widely used as a solvent.

Cyclohexane is primarily used as a solvent for coatings/paints, rubber, oils/waxes, and as a general laboratory solvent (replacing benzene in organic synthesis and as an eluent in chromatography).
Used as an organic synthesis raw material:
– Cyclohexane is a key intermediate in the production of nylon 6 and nylon 66.
– Halogenated derivatives of cyclohexane are used to synthesize cyclohexanamine, cyclohexylcarboxylic acid, etc., widely applied in pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, and other fields.
It serves as a gasoline additive and is used in small quantities for aviation fuel and lighter fuel (blended with other flammable solvents to regulate volatility).
Other applications:
– Serves as a standard substance for determining physical constants in laboratories;
– Used for cleaning oil contamination from metal surfaces (replaces kerosene with higher degreasing efficiency and minimal residue);
– Employed as a solvent in polymerization reactions of polyethylene, polypropylene, etc., to adjust reaction system viscosity and improve polymer particle morphology.
