Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (MF: C22H48ClN; MW: 362.08) is a white to pale yellow waxy solid or a colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid (commonly used in industry as an 80% aqueous solution) with a slight characteristic odor. It belongs to the class of dialkyl quaternary ammonium cationic surfactants. It exhibits potent bactericidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as fungi. As a third-generation quaternary ammonium salt disinfectant, it is widely used in water treatment, disinfection, textile printing and dyeing, and personal care products, with superior bactericidal efficacy compared to traditional monochain quaternary ammonium salts (such as benzalkonium chloride).
