Sodium docusate with the molecular formula C₂₀H₃₇NaO₇S, is a white or off-white waxy solid; the industrial grade is pale yellow. It is stable at room temperature, readily soluble in water and ethanol, and exhibits excellent surfactant, wetting, penetrating, emulsifying, and dispersing properties. It is primarily used as a surfactant, wetting and penetrating agent, emulsifying and dispersing agent, pharmaceutical solubilizing agent, and additive in personal care and coating products.
