Hydroquinone (MF: C6H6O2 MW: 110.11), is a white, needle-like crystalline solid; the industrial grade has a slight grayish tint. It is relatively stable at room temperature but oxidizes and discolors easily when exposed to light. It is slightly soluble in cold water but readily soluble in hot water, ethanol, and diethyl ether. It exhibits weak acidity and strong reducing properties. It is primarily used as a photographic developer, rubber antioxidant, chemical synthesis intermediate, dye raw material, and polymerization inhibitor.
