
Isothiazolinones (MF: C₄H₄ClNO₂; MW: 149.6) are a class of highly effective, broad-spectrum heterocyclic fungicides. Key members include MIT and CMIT, which are often blended in specific ratios. The isothiazolinone ring in their molecular structure is crucial for their fungicidal activity. They exhibit good stability in acidic to neutral environments (pH 4–8) but undergo hydrolysis and lose fungicidal activity in strongly alkaline (pH > 9) or strongly acidic (pH < 2) solutions. They are stable against oxidizing agents (e.g., sodium hypochlorite) but are easily degraded by reducing agents (e.g., sulfites).
Due to their high bactericidal efficiency, low dosage requirements, excellent compatibility, and biodegradability, isothiazolinone compounds are widely used in industrial circulating water systems, personal care products, coatings, and other fields.
