
Lauryl alcohol, also known as n-dodecanol, is a higher saturated fatty alcohol originally extracted from laurel bark. Its chemical formula is CH₃(CH₂)₁₀CH₂OH, with the molecular formula C₁₂H₂₆O and a molecular weight of 186.33. At room temperature, it is a colorless oily liquid or white crystal with a faint odor. It is insoluble in water but readily soluble in organic solvents. It exhibits excellent surfactant properties and is the most commonly used base material in the production of personal care products and the synthesis of surfactants.
