Methyl eugenol (CAS: 93-15-2), also known as eugenol methyl ether, has the molecular formula C₁₁H₁₄O₂ and a molecular weight of 178.23. It is a methyl ether derivative of eugenol and occurs naturally in basil oil, clove oil, nutmeg oil, star anise oil, and vanilla bean extract. It is a colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid with a fresh, sweet clove-anise spice aroma similar to that of sweet clover; the scent is quite penetrating and long-lasting, with a mild, tea-like spicy note.
