Octyl 4-methoxycinnamate with the molecular formula C18H26O3, is a colorless, transparent, oily liquid; the industrial grade product has a slight yellowish tint. It is stable at room temperature, resistant to light and heat, insoluble in water, and readily soluble in ethanol, oils, and organic solvents. It exhibits strong ultraviolet absorption properties. It is primarily used as a sunscreen agent in cosmetics, a UV absorber in personal care products, a solubilizing agent in fragrance formulations, and a light-stabilizing additive for polymers.
