Octylisothiazolinone, abbreviated as OIT or octylthiazole, is a highly effective, broad-spectrum isothiazolinone fungicide with the molecular formula C₁₁H₁₉NOS and a molecular weight of 213.34. At room temperature, it is a pale yellow oily liquid or a white to light yellow solid. It is slightly soluble in water and readily soluble in organic solvents. It possesses strong bactericidal and antifungal activity and exhibits excellent inhibitory effects against microorganisms such as molds, yeasts, and bacteria. It is widely used in the coatings, personal care, building materials, and leather industries and serves as an important industrial preservative and antifungal agent.
