Picaridin, also known as Icaridin or hydroxypiperidyl ester, has the chemical name 2-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperidine-1-carboxylic acid sec-butyl ester, with the molecular formula C₁₂H₂₃NO₃ and a molecular weight of 229.32. It is a colorless, transparent, viscous liquid that is odorless or nearly odorless. It is gentle on the skin, non-irritating, and leaves a refreshing, non-greasy feel. Its mosquito-repellent mechanism involves forming a barrier on the skin’s surface that interferes with the olfactory senses of mosquitoes and ticks, preventing them from locating human skin.
