Piperonyl butoxide, chemically known as 3,4-Methylenedioxyphenyl-2-propyl butyl ether (abbreviated as PBO), MF: C₁₉H₃₀O₅ MW: 338.44, is a typical pesticide synergist. At room temperature, it appears as a pale yellow to light brown transparent oily liquid. The pure compound is a colorless liquid with a slight characteristic odor. It remains stable under normal temperature and neutral or weakly acidic conditions, resisting decomposition. Under strongly alkaline conditions (pH > 10), it undergoes hydrolysis to form degradation products such as piperonal, losing its synergistic activity.
