Poly(D,L Lactide-co-glycolide) (CAS: 26780-50-7) is a linear aliphatic polyester formed by the ring-opening polymerization of two monomers: lactic acid (LA) and glycolic acid (GA). Its molecular formula is (C₃H₄O₂)ₓ(C₂H₂O₂)ᵧ or (C₆H₈O₄・C₄H₄O₄)ₙ, and its molecular weight can be adjusted within the range of 0.5 to 110,000.
PLGA is a white to pale yellow crystalline powder that degrades into lactic acid and glycolic acid, which are ultimately metabolized into CO₂ and water, with no accumulation of toxic byproducts.
