
Polyacrylonitrile (CAS 25014-41-9), with the molecular formula (C₃H₃N)_n, is a white or pale yellow powder. It is stable at room temperature, resistant to acids and weathering, practically insoluble in water, and soluble in polar solvents such as dimethylformamide. It decomposes and carbonizes at high temperatures. It is primarily used in the production of acrylic fibers, carbon fiber precursors, coating modifiers, and membrane materials.
