Potassium oleate is a potassium salt of oleic acid (cis-9-octadecenoic acid) produced by the reaction of oleic acid with potassium hydroxide. Molecular formula: C18H33KO2 MW: 320.55. It is an anionic surfactant that appears as a white to pale yellow powder, paste, or liquid. It is highly soluble in water and hot ethanol; its aqueous solution is alkaline. It possesses excellent emulsifying, foaming, cleaning, lubricating, and surface-active properties and is widely used in the personal care, pharmaceutical, and industrial catalysis sectors.
