  • Pullulan (MF: C20H36O16, MW: 532.49024) is a natural high-molecular-weight polysaccharide produced by the fermentation of Aureobasidium pullulans, belonging to the linear polymers of glucose.

  1. Pululan can be used as a film coating for candies, tablets, etc., effectively preventing product moisture absorption and oxidation, thereby extending shelf life.
  2. In beverages, jellies, ice cream, and other foods, it can serve as a thickener and stabiliser, enhancing product viscosity and stability while preventing separation and precipitation.
  3. Since pullulan is not easily digested or absorbed by the human body and has low caloric content, it can be used to produce low-calorie foods, such as weight-loss foods and foods for diabetic patients.
  4. Pullulan polysaccharides have good biocompatibility and biodegradability, making them suitable as drug carriers for the preparation of drug formulations such as microspheres and nanoparticles.
  5. The film formed has good breathability and moisture retention properties, making it suitable for the preparation of medical dressings to promote wound healing and prevent wound infection.
  6. In cosmetics (such as hair gel, face masks, nail polish, etc.), it can be used as a film-forming agent to fix hairstyles, moisturise, and provide a protective barrier.
  7. Pululan can be used as a seed coating agent to improve seed germination rates and stress resistance, and protect seeds from pests and diseases.
