Quinolinic acid (MF: C₇H₅NO₄, MW: 167.12) is a dicarboxylic acid containing a pyridine ring. At room temperature, it is a white to pale yellow crystalline powder. Its molecule contains both a pyridine ring and two carboxyl (-COOH) functional groups, exhibiting the chemical properties of both aromatic compounds and carboxylic acids. It serves as an important organic synthesis intermediate, as well as a natural product of tryptophan metabolism in living organisms and an endogenous agonist of NMDA receptors.
