Rongalite (also known as sodium bisulfite formaldehyde dihydrate or Rongalite) is the dihydrate of sodium bisulfite formaldehyde, with the molecular formula NaHSO₂·CH₂O·2H₂O (or CH₇NaO₅S) and a molecular weight of 154.11. At room temperature, it appears as a white crystalline powder or lumps, is odorless or has a faint odor of formaldehyde / leek-like odor. It is highly soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is alkaline. It possesses strong reducing and bleaching properties.
