
Selenium disulfide, with the molecular formula SeS₂ and a molecular weight of 143.09, is an orange-yellow or brownish-red powder. It is insoluble in water, ethanol, and most organic solvents, and exhibits certain chemical stability. Its melting point is approximately 100℃ (it decomposes easily upon heating), and it is non-volatile. It is stable in air but reacts with strong acids and strong oxidizing agents, exhibiting some oxidizing and reducing properties. This product has antifungal, anti-seborrheic, and anti-keratolytic effects. It is relatively sensitive to light and heat and should be stored in a light-protected, sealed container for long-term storage.

Pharmaceutical and Daily Chemical Industries: Selenium sulfide is primarily used in shampoos to treat dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp, inhibiting fungal growth and sebum secretion. It can also be used in topical antifungal preparations for the skin.
Chemical and Materials Industries: Selenium sulfide is used as a rubber vulcanizing agent and lubricant additive to improve the wear resistance and heat resistance of materials; it can also be used as a raw material for semiconductor and optoelectronic materials.
Other Industrial Applications: Selenium sulfide is used as an electroplating additive and glass colorant; it can also be used as a selenium and sulfur source in chemical synthesis.
