Chemical Properties Of Sodium Acetate Cas 127-09-3

Sodium acetate (MF: C₂H₃NaO₂, MW: 82.03379) is a common inorganic compound. It possesses acid-base regulating and buffering properties, wherein its acetate anion can chelate and remove scale from metal ions. It exhibits excellent compatibility with most organic and inorganic compounds, featuring low corrosion, physical and biological safety, and non-toxicity. It finds extensive application in chemical engineering, food processing, pharmaceuticals, environmental protection, and other fields.

Product Application Of Sodium Acetate Cas 127-09-3

  1.  As a chemical synthesis feedstock, sodium acetate is employed in producing acetic acid, acetylacetone, dye intermediates (e.g., azo dyes), pharmaceutical intermediates, etc.; it is also a key raw material for synthesising ethyl acetate, sodium chloroacetate and other chemical products.
  2.  Sodium ethanoate functions as a ‘neutralising agent’ to adjust pH levels during textile dyeing processes, and also serves as a mordant to enhance dye fastness.
  3.  Employed for rust prevention on steel surfaces (forming a passivation film) or as a buffer in electroplating solutions to stabilise pH conditions during electroplating.
  4.  Serves as an alkaline cleaning agent to remove scale deposits from pipelines, functions as a pH adjuster in wastewater treatment, or acts as a carbon source for denitrifying bacteria to enhance nitrogen removal from sewage.
  5.  In small quantities, acts as an early strength agent and anti-freeze additive for concrete, reducing setting time and improving low-temperature workability; when mixed with sodium chloride, serves as a de-icing agent.
  6.  In the food sector, sodium ethanoate functions as an acidity regulator, preservative, and buffer agent. It neutralises sourness, enhances palatability, and stabilises product pH levels.
  7.  In pharmaceuticals, sodium acetate serves as an excipient to enhance tablet compactability; it also functions as a pH buffer in injectables, reducing solution irritation to the human body.
  8.  In laboratories, it acts as a core component of buffer solutions and as a reference material in analytical chemistry for calibrating strong acids like hydrochloric acid.
