Chemical Properties Of Sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate Cas 68439-57-6

Sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate (MF: C14H27NaO3S, MW: 298.417), abbreviated as AOS, is an anionic surfactant produced by sulphonation and neutralisation of α-olefins. It exhibits excellent foaming properties, hard water resistance, and biodegradability, establishing itself as a core ingredient in detergents, personal care products, and related fields. Based on the carbon chain length of the α-olefin feedstock, AOS can be categorised as C14-C16 AOS, C16-C18 AOS, and C12-C14 AOS.

Product Application Of Sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate Cas 68439-57-6

  1.  Sodium α-olefin sulfonate is primarily used in various cleaning and care products, such as the main surfactant in washing powders/liquids, auxiliary surfactant in shampoos/shower gels, dishwashing detergents, and infant care products.
  2.  As a metal cleaner, AOS is employed for degreasing and cleaning machine tools and automotive components without corroding metals (may be blended with corrosion inhibitors).
  3.  Serves as a wetting agent in textile pretreatment and an emulsifier for dyes and printing pastes.
  4.  Used in tile, glass, and floor cleaners, offering strong stain removal, easy rinsing, and no residue or streaks.
  5.  In petroleum extraction, functions as a foam-based oil displacement agent to enhance reservoir permeability and increase crude oil recovery rates.
  6.  In agriculture, serves as an emulsifier for pesticides, enhancing the adhesion and penetration of insecticides and herbicides onto crop surfaces.
  7.  Functions as a deinking agent in the papermaking industry, removing ink during waste paper recycling while simultaneously dispersing fibres.
  8.  Acts as a penetrant in leather tanning processes, promoting uniform penetration of tanning agents into hides to improve leather feel and flexibility.
