Sodium carbonate (Soda ash, baking soda, or soda), with the chemical name disodium carbonate and the chemical formula Na₂CO₃, has a molecular weight of 105.99. It is an important basic raw material in inorganic chemistry and belongs to the class of strong base-weak acid salts. Its aqueous solution is strongly alkaline. It is widely used in glass manufacturing, chemical synthesis, household cleaning products, food processing, and other fields, and is often referred to as the “mother of industry.”

Glass Industry: Sodium Carbonate is used as a flux in the production of flat glass, household glass bottles and jars, photovoltaic glass, and tableware glass.
Water Treatment: Neutralizing acidic industrial wastewater, adjusting water pH, precipitating calcium and magnesium ions in water, and desulfurization and denitrification of flue gas.
Detergent and Household Chemicals Industry: Formulating laundry detergents, soaps, industrial degreasers, and heavy-duty cleaning agents, as well as softening water used in washing and buffering pH levels.
Basic Chemical Raw Materials: Soda is used in the production of baking soda, caustic soda, sodium silicate, various phosphates, carbonates, and other chemical products; also serves as a neutralizing agent and basic raw material in fine chemicals and organic synthesis.
Metallurgy and Mining Industry: Flux and desulfurization agent for steel and non-ferrous metal smelting; adjusts the pH of slurry in ore flotation and beneficiation processes to remove impurities from slag.
Paper Industry: Specialized additives for pulp cooking, waste paper deinking, and paper sheet sizing processes.
Food Industry: Neutralizes acidity and enhances gluten formation in noodle production; also used in century egg production, removing fishy odors and preserving seafood, and adjusting pH in food processing.
Textile and Dyeing Industry: Additives for fabric desizing, scouring, bleaching, and dyeing processes.
Building Materials and Other Industries: Fluxing agents for ceramic and refractory green bodies; additives for construction mortars and cement admixtures; also used for degreasing in leather tanning, pH adjustment in electroplating, and as reference reagents in laboratory chemistry.
