Sodium cholate (CAS 361-09-1), with the molecular formula C₂₄H₃₉NaO₅, is a white to off-white crystalline powder; it is stable at room temperature, hygroscopic, and readily soluble in water and ethanol, but insoluble in diethyl ether. Its aqueous solution is weakly alkaline and exhibits excellent emulsifying, solubilizing, and surfactant properties. It is primarily used as a biochemical reagent, pharmaceutical excipient, food emulsifier, feed additive, and raw material for biological culture media.
