Chemical Properties Of Sodium dehydroacetate Cas 4418-26-2

  • Sodium dehydroacetate (DHA), MF: C8H7NaO4, MW: 190.13. Exhibits excellent light and heat resistance. Its aqueous solution is neutral to slightly alkaline. Chemically stable with typical phenolate properties, it reacts violently with strong oxidising acids. The methylene triol structure in its molecule forms chelate complexes with metal ions.
  • Sodium dehydroacetate is a broad-spectrum food preservative with exceptionally potent antimicrobial activity, exhibiting particularly strong inhibition against moulds and yeasts. At equivalent dosage levels, its antimicrobial efficacy surpasses that of widely used preservatives such as sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate by several to dozens of times. Notably, it exerts minimal inhibitory effect on acid-producing bacteria, especially lactic acid bacteria.

Product Application Of Sodium dehydroacetate Cas 4418-26-2

  • DHA – sodium may be employed in pickled vegetables, edible fungi, algae, fermented soy products, and compound seasonings to preserve freshness and inhibit spoilage.
  • As a feed preservative and anti-mould agent, DHN effectively inhibits microbial proliferation in animal feed, preventing spoilage while preserving nutritional content and ensuring healthy animal growth.
  • Commonly used in cosmetics and skincare products to suppress microbial growth, maintain product stability, and prevent deterioration or off-odours. It exhibits low skin irritancy and does not compromise product usability.
  • Harven can be employed to control slugs, ants, and mites. Sodium dehydroacetate solutions inhibit the mycelial growth, spore production, and germination of Fusarium circosporum, the pathogen responsible for Fusarium wilt in asparagus.
  • In tobacco and paper products, sodium dehydroacetate also provides anti-mould and preservative effects, preventing microbial-induced deterioration. Furthermore, it serves as a chemical raw material and intermediate in producing anticoccidials like chlorpyrifos.
