Sodium gluconate, also known as Sodium D-gluconate, MF: C₆H₁₁O₇Na, MW: 218.14, is a white or pale yellow crystalline powder. It is a sodium salt of carboxylic acid produced by the oxidation (or biological fermentation) of glucose. As a non-toxic, readily biodegradable organic acid salt, it possesses chelating properties, forming stable soluble complexes with metal ions such as Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, and Fe³⁺, along with corrosion inhibition and water solubility.
