Sodium tallowate is a sodium salt of fatty acids produced by reacting fatty acids obtained through the hydrolysis of tallow (animal fat) with sodium hydroxide. Its core property is that of an anionic surfactant, and it is also one of the primary active ingredients in traditional soap. It possesses excellent surface activity, reducing water’s surface tension to achieve cleaning, emulsifying, and foaming effects.
| Item | Specification |
| Solubility | Easily soluble in hot water, slightly soluble in cold water, forming a turbid colloidal solution upon dissolution; insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. |
| Surfactant Properties | Significantly reduces water surface tension, readily forms foam in water, and possesses emulsifying capabilities to disperse grease into small particles for easier cleaning. |
| Stability | Decomposes upon contact with strong acids; melts at high temperatures; forms soap scum when exposed to hard water ions like calcium and magnesium. |
