Chemical Properties Of Tetrapotassium pyrophosphate Cas 7320-34-5

Tetrapotassium pyrophosphate (MF: K₄P₂O₇, MW: 330.336522) is an inorganic phosphate salt. TKPP possesses all properties characteristic of other polymeric phosphates, being analogous to sodium pyrophosphate but exhibiting greater solubility. It forms chelate complexes with alkaline earth and heavy metal ions; It forms stable complexes with Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺ ions in hard water, thereby softening it. It also forms protective films on metal surfaces such as iron, zinc, and aluminium. The pyrophosphate anion (P₂O₇⁴⁻) exhibits strong dispersing power for finely dispersed solids, promoting uniform mixing of minute and trace substances.

Product Application Of Tetrapotassium pyrophosphate Cas 7320-34-5

  1.  As a food additive, Potassium Pyrophosphate primarily functions as a moisture retainer and quality improver in meat and poultry products, canned foods, and baked goods. It also serves as a pH adjuster and stabiliser, a metal ion chelating agent, regulating pH levels in food systems for use in fruit and vegetable processing, beverages, and ice cream.
  2.  Within the chemical and detergent industries, Potassium Diphosphate functions as a detergent additive, metal surface treatment agent, pigment dispersant, water treatment agent, and corrosion inhibitor.
  3.  In electroplating, TKPP functions as a plating complexing agent, forming stable complexes with metal ions to produce uniform, dense coatings; it also serves as a degreasing agent component in pre-treatment degreasing processes.
  4.  In certain pharmaceutical formulations (such as oral solutions and ointments), Potassium Diphosphate functions as a pH adjuster, stabiliser, or chelating agent to enhance drug stability and solubility. As a cosmetic ingredient, it is incorporated into skincare products and shampoos to prevent spoilage while regulating pH levels and strengthening emulsion stability.
  5.  Potassium pyrophosphate is further employed as a dyeing and finishing aid, fabric softener, in pulp bleaching processes, and for paper sizing.
