
Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate (GLDA-Na₄), MF: C9H14NNaO8, MW: 287.2, is an environmentally friendly chelating agent produced by the condensation reaction of natural L-glutamic acid (a food-grade monosodium glutamate raw material) with chloroacetic acid. It forms stable, water-soluble complexes with various metal ions such as calcium, magnesium, iron and copper, and has a biodegradation rate of >90%, making it an ideal green alternative to traditional chelating agents such as EDTA and NTA.

Household and personal care: GLDA-4Na is used as a chelating water softener, added to various detergents, personal care products and dishwashing liquids to prevent limescale, stabilise formulations and enhance cleaning performance.
Industrial cleaning and water treatment: Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate is used for equipment descaling and scale inhibition in circulating water; also serves as an in-situ cleaning aid for food processing equipment.
Textile printing and dyeing: Chelsates metal ions in water, acting as a dyeing and bleaching aid to prevent uneven colouring and protect fabric strength.
Other applications: In agriculture, chelsates trace elements to enhance fertiliser efficacy; also functions as an ion stabiliser and masking agent in oil fields, cosmetics and pharmaceutical systems.
