Triflic acid

Trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (TFMSA, HOTf) is a colorless, transparent, fuming liquid; when impure, it appears yellow or yellowish-brown. It belongs to the class of perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acids and is a superacid. It is highly corrosive, hygroscopic, and strongly oxidizing, and is violently exothermically miscible with water and most polar organic solvents. It is chemically stable and exhibits excellent thermal stability, serving as a core raw material for highly efficient catalysts in organic synthesis, as well as for pharmaceutical and pesticide intermediates and electronic chemicals.
