2,2,4-Trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol diisobutyrate (TXIB) has plasticising and viscosity-reducing functions and is widely used in plastic processing, coatings, and adhesives, as follows:

1. It can be used as a viscosity reducer in plastic solvents and organic solvents, reducing the viscosity of PVC sheets while enhancing stiffness, suitable for processes such as rotational moulding and calendering. It can make the surface of the finished product smoother and more cold-resistant.
2. In the production of elastomers such as polyurethane (PU), it can reduce system viscosity, improve processing flowability, and simultaneously enhance the water resistance and flexibility of the finished product.
3. In water-based systems such as latex paints and inks, it can be used as a coagulant to lower the minimum film-forming temperature (MFT), enhance coating adhesion, and improve water resistance.
4. It can serve as a diluent for methyl ethyl ketone peroxide formulations and as a low-hue additive for surface coatings, combining cost-effectiveness with stable performance.
5. It can be used in packaging materials for non-infant food products due to its safety, non-toxicity, and chemical stability.
6. When blended with new plasticisers such as DINCH, it optimises the expansion behaviour of PVC foam products, reduces processing temperature, and minimises yellowing.
