Zinc hydroxide is an amphoteric inorganic hydroxide with the chemical formula Zn(OH)₂ and a molecular weight of 99.39; it consists of divalent zinc ions (Zn²⁺) and two hydroxide ions (OH⁻). As a typical amphoteric hydroxide, zinc hydroxide possesses unique chemical properties: it dissolves in strong acids to form zinc salts, dissolves in strong alkalis to form zincates, and dissolves in excess ammonia water to form zinc ammonium complexes ([Zn(NH₃)₄]²⁺), but is very slightly soluble in water.
